MasjidFinder

Terms of use

MasjidFinder helps you find a masjid and get there. It is a directory and a calculator, not an authority on either a building or a ruling.

Where the listings come from

A listing is a record of what a source published. MasjidFinder does not decide which mosque is which, does not rank one above another on any basis except distance, and does not speak for any of the masjids it lists.

Prayer times

The five times shown for a location are calculated on your device from its coordinates using the standard Muslim World League conventions, with the local timezone applied. They are an aid, not a published schedule. A masjid’s own iqamah times differ from a calculation, sometimes by ten minutes or more, and a Ramadan timetable is set by the imam. Confirm with the masjid itself — the phone number and website are on every card when they are known.

Before you travel

Opening hours, the presence of a women’s area, capacity and parking are taken from what has been published and can be out of date. Directions open in the maps app you choose; the route it proposes is its responsibility, not this one.

Using the app

Who owns what

The application is the work of Amin al Farisi and is proprietary: its code, its interface, its wording in all six languages and the pin-with-a-crescent mark may not be copied, re-hosted or shipped as another product. The rows it shows are somebody else's open data and they stay open: masjids come from OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL, cities from GeoNames under CC BY 4.0, verified charities from the Charity Commission under the Open Government Licence, and a few from Wikidata. The licence over the app therefore claims no rights over the data, and reuse of the data carries the attribution those licences ask for. The full text is in the LICENSE file of the source repository.

No warranty

The service is provided as it is. Listings can be missing, duplicated, stale or wrong, and the map can be unavailable. Nobody using MasjidFinder for a decision that matters — a prayer, a journey, a service — has a claim against it for a mistake in the data. If something is wrong, tell us and it will be fixed at the next review.
