Privacy
MasjidFinder is a directory of masjids and a prayer-time calculator. It works without an account, and it does not sell or advertise on anybody.
What stays on your device
- Your chosen language, theme and search radius.
- The position you searched for, and the last list of masjids around it, so the app opens with content when the network is down.
- The masjids you save with the star button. This list never leaves the device; there is no account to sync it to.
All of it is browser storage on your own phone or computer. Clearing site data in the browser removes it, and the app has no way to restore it.
Location
The map works from a position you either type in or grant through the browser’s own location permission. Nothing about a real position is written to a server: the coordinates are used for the distance calculation of that one request, and the search radius that is sent is a number of kilometres, not a trace of where you have been.
What is recorded on the server
- Standard, short-lived request logs kept by the hosting provider (time, path, status). These are not read as a user profile.
- A count of search phrases that produced no result, so the empty towns become a work list. The phrase is stored, the person is not.
- If you send a masjid for the team to review, the text you typed is stored until the review is finished. A one-way hash of the network address is kept next to it purely to cap how many submissions one device can send in an hour; the address itself is not stored and the hash cannot be turned back into it.
Third parties
- Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap’s public tile servers, which see the request the same way any web server would.
- Fonts are served by Google Fonts.
- Inside Telegram the app runs in Telegram’s own WebView; Telegram’s privacy policy covers that container, not the directory.
- There is no analytics script, no advertising SDK and no social pixel on any page.
Children and accuracy
The service is a public directory, not a social product, and it does not knowingly hold personal data about anybody. A masjid’s own phone number, address and website appear because they were published by that masjid or by OpenStreetMap contributors. If a listing about a person or a facility is wrong or should not be there, use the “tell us” form in the app and it will be corrected or removed at the next review.
Changes
If this page starts describing something new that is collected, it will say so here before the app does it. Last reviewed: September 2026.
